Çatal Höyük, Turkey
discovered in 1958 by British archaeologist James Mellaart.

The detail of the town plan of Çatal Höyük, painted  6200 BC, at right, shows a volcanic eruption over the city.

The city of 10,000 was so crowded there were no streets. Houses were entered by ladder from the roofs.

City plan 6200 BCE

The city contains both private household shrines and rooms dedicated to earth mother and bull images.
Several murals show vulture-like figures flying over people.
