History of Western Civilization

Social Consequences

As the Egyptian tomb painting and photograph contemporary village life illustrate,  for most people the technology of the ancient world is still being used. Just as the majority of the world's people are still farmers. The ancient world is not over, it is not entirely in the past, it is still present among us.

The fundamental problems encountered by the early agriculturalists –

   dependency on the weather
   degradation of the environment
   over-population
   epidemic disease
   social inequality
   poverty
   war
– have never been solved.

These problems, in fact, form the common fabric of human existence for the past 10,000 years, whether we live in industrialized societies or in agricultural villages.
