What is the difference? ...A knowledge of the history of the world is important to an understanding of the development of Western Civilization. Substantial contributions to western civilization have come from Africa, China, the Americas, SE Asia and Oceania.
However, traditionally the history of western civilization concentrates on developments in Europe, the ancient Near East and to a lesser degree, Egypt.
We will skip chapters 3,4,7,10,11, and 14. I encourage you to read these chapters.
Pay close attention to maps and timelines, chapter summaries, individual in society and listening to the past sections. the bibliographies of suggested readings are good - you may need to consult some of these for your class assignments.
Chapters are ~30 pages. Occasionally I will supplement the reading.
