Monastery of St. Gall

This was an important monastery, but lots of monasteries were important. What sets this one apart is that we have detailed plans for how it was constructed and organized.

You can explore St. Gall or explore other monasteries to find out how monks lived day in and day out. Did you know they did a lot of farming? It wasn't all just illuminated manuscripts and chanting. It was also chickens and turnips and even administering entire fiefs, complete with peasants and such. There were even monasteries who held such extensive estates that they had their own knights who owed them military service.
